This is Laura (24), an adventurous physiotherapist from the Netherlands. Since October 2021, she has been living in scenic Lucerne, where she works at Bürgenstock Rehab. After studying in Eindhoven, she decided to broaden her horizons and start a career abroad. The mountains, lakes and proximity to home made Switzerland the perfect destination.
A life between mountains and lakes
Laura's decision to move to Switzerland was driven by her love for adventure.
“I wanted to work abroad, but not too far from my family and friends. Switzerland combines the best of both worlds: impressive nature yet close to the Netherlands.”
“I do something different every weekend: hiking, camping, skiing, or just enjoying the view at a lake. These are things I couldn't have done in the Netherlands, and it gives me so much energy!”
Thanks to a close group of friends, Lucerne now feels like home for Laura.
Less stress, more enjoyment
One of the biggest changes Laura is experiencing is the relaxed lifestyle in Switzerland.
“People here are a lot less stressed. For myself, I notice that I'm spending a lot more time outside and trying new things, especially because of the people I met here and the beautiful surroundings.”
Another advantage she highlights is the higher salary.
“That allows me to do more fun things and save money at the same time.”
Laura's golden tip for your takeoff
For anyone considering taking the plunge, Laura has two practical tips.
“The Komoot hiking app is really a lifesaver when you go hiking. Not only does it offer great routes, but it has also got me out of trouble a few times.”
And for the adventurous types, she adds,
“Always look at webcams before going into the mountains. That saves you surprises!”
